Two Layton fires in a single week of 1943





LAYTON suffered two devastating fires during the final week of October in 1943.
“Two Layton fires this week reveals $7,500 loss” was an Oct. 29, 1943 headline in the Davis County Clipper newspaper.
The Layton Duck Pin Bowling Alley was a total loss, estimated at $6,500, while the Layton Milling Company had a separate fire, with another $1,000 in losses.
($7,500 in 1943 is equal in value, with an adjustment for inflation, of more than $106,000  in 2018 dollar value.
The Hill Field, Clearfield Naval and Kaysville Fire Departments were summoned to assist the Layton Volunteer Fire Department with the bowling alley fire. It required one hour to put the flames out.
