When the Layton school zone speed limit was only 15 mph

THINK 20 mph in school zones is slow? Back in 1956, Layton City had a 15 mph speed limit on Church Street, from Main Street to Gordon Avenue; and also on Gordon Avenue, from Church Street to Hill Field Road during certain times, according to the Ogden Standard-Examiner of March 1, 1956.
(There was no I-15 in those days.)
The speed limit was in place from 8-9 a.m. and from 3-4 p.m. each school day, to protect students walking to Central Davis Junior School. There were no sidewalks back then.
Besides that action by the Layton City Council, it also voted to reduce the legal parking time in the City’s business district from two hours to one hour. Congestion and double parking on South Main Street and Gentile Street had become a big problem in the area.
