LAYTON'S second high school was announced in the early summer of 1990.
"New high school to be built in Layton" was a June 27, 1990 headline in the Davis County Clipper newspaper.
The report stated that the high school would be built on 48.23 acres and that the land alone cost $1.045 million to purchase.
At the time, some Davis County School Board members were not happy with the choice of Layton for another high school. Some preferred Syracuse as a better option, since it had more growth than Layton did.
Northridge High School was the end result.
(Syracuse did gain its own high school 17 years later, in 2007).
Layton High had opened as the City's first high school in 1966. Prior to that, Layton residents had attended Davis High School in Kaysville.
