Back when Layton had singing doctors

This is a photograph of four Layton doctors who combined their musical skills to become the “Cutups” singing quartet in Davis County in the mid-20th Century. Left to right are: Dr. Robert Kelly, Dr. Robert Bitner, Dr. Robert Christensen and Dr. De J Cutler.

IN the 1950s and 1960s, Layton had four and sometimes five doctors from Tanner Clinic who combined their vocal skills and would sing at various events in the area.
"Five Doctors on Program" was a January 16, 1958 headline in the Weekly Reflex newspaper. Dr. Robert F. Bitner, Dr. Robert Christensen, Robert Kelly, De J. Cutler and Seldon Owens sang at a sacrament meeting in the Layton Fifth Ward on Jan. 12 of that year. Bitner and Christensen were the speakers at the church meeting also.
This singing group changed slightly over time, as Owens was absent. Also, the group went by various names, such as "The Cutups," "The Doctors," "The Five Doctors" or "The Four Doctors."
All of the men were involved with Tanner Clinic in Layton.

NOTE: Dr. Cutler was the author's family physician, from 1984, until he retired about a decade later.
