1968: When Syracuse Road was renamed Antelope Drive

BEFORE 1968, Antelope Drive was named "Syracuse Road."
A proposal in Layton City on Feb. 12, 1968 was approved by the City Council and changed the street's title to what it is today.
Some residents didn't favor the old Syracuse road name. Also, the newly created park on Antelope Island was accessed directly by this highway, if you drove far enough west.
Over the decades, Layton City has expanded Antelope Drive eastward and it finally connects with Highway 89. Although it is not a perfectly straight road, it does run almost the entire east-west length of Layton City now.

The road is also one of the busiest in the City.
-Syracuse City, however, still refers to the road officially as 1700 South Street. (It is State Highway 108.) Still, it is also called the Antelope Island Road and even sometimes Antelope Drive by the public.
