1960: When Layton's first public swimming pool opened

LAYTON'S first public swimming pool opened in the mid-summer of 1960.
Some 26 years before the Surf 'n Swim came along, there was just a seasonal outdoor pool in Layton City.
The Salt Lake Tribune of July 7, 1960 reported that the Layton pool had just had its final pour of concrete and would open in about two weeks, once the final plastering work was completed.
Admission to that pool was 25 cents for children and 50 cents for adults. Swimming lessons were originally $4 for a 12-lesson course.
-That pool, which still exists just east of the Surf 'n Swim, is only open in the summer and is used extensively for swimming lessons. The pool has been refurbished over the decades.
