1961: Layton's first funeral home

LAYTON'S first funeral home opened in the spring of 1961, at 1095 North Main Street. Union Mortuary (forerunner to Russon Mortuary) had begun in Bountiful and expanded to Layton.
Sitting on three acres of land, the Mortuary’s chapel, in the foreground above, was added onto the south end of Ray Dawson’s former home. Reid R. Holbrook was the first manager of the facility and his family also lived in the complex, that also included six viewing rooms. After the mortuary closed decades later, it was remodeled into a strip mall comprising many different small shops.
