The first two "roads" in North Davis County

Captain Howard Stansbury's 1850 map of North Davis County shows the road split near Farmington.

NORTH Davis County had two roads, more like paths, back in the 1850s, when the first settlers arrived.
At the north end of today's Farmington City, the path through Davis County split into two forks. The left fork went northwest and was well traveled by the "Gold Rushers" and eventually became today's Bluff Road. It was often referred to as the "Salt Lake Cutoff Emigrant Road" in pioneer times.
Being away from the mountains, this route was more snow free and often drier than the mountain path.
The mountain path roughly follows where today's Highway 89 is as it traverses through Fruit Heights, Kaysville and Layton. This path likely had its beginnings as a Native American trail and was eventually known as Mountain Road.
