WAY back in
1966, the newly opened Fort Lane Shopping Center was the pride of Layton.
Located where Winco is now, at Fort Lane and Gentile Streets, this was shopping
heaven for area residents.
Safeway was the original anchor of the Fort Lane Shopping Center.
In fact, this landmark shopping mecca for Layton was as important in its era as the Layton Hills Mall is to the retail community today.
In fact, this landmark shopping mecca for Layton was as important in its era as the Layton Hills Mall is to the retail community today.
However, now
some 53 years later, only two of the original 16 businesses in the original
Fort Lane Shopping Center still exist – and they are found elsewhere.
First
National Bank of Layton and Layton Visual are the only two survivors from 1966.
First
National still has its headquarters in Layton and one other branch office in
town. It has expanded today to seven total locations.
Layton Visual
is located at 180 West Gordon Avenue and has different owners today.
