1958: When bowling returned to Layton City after a 15-year lapse

LAYTON City gained its first modern bowling alley on Sept. 15, 1958, when the Holt Lanes Bowling Alley opened at 1396 North Main Street.
However, back then there were NO other businesses nearby. The Holt subdivision was being developed on the west side of Main Street, opposite the bowling alley, and often that was listed as it address -- being near Holt subdivision.
Holt Lanes was opened by Graydon Holt at a cost of $225,000. It originally featured 12 lanes, a coffee shop and a dentist's office. Mr. Holt also used to have his home next to the business and he had farmed the land to the west, where the subdivision was constructed.
The bowling alley offered some free bowling classes and lots of league competitions.
Years later, the bowling alley became Davis Lane and underwent expansion and remodeling over the decades.
-Layton used to have the Duck Pin Bowling Lanes in the 1930s, but it burned to the ground in a 1943 fire and was not replaced.

-Kaysville had a bowling alley as early as 1938, but it closed a few decades later.
