LAYTON boasted a good community baseball team in 1913. In fact, according to the Weekly Reflex newspaper of May 15 that year, the Layton nine beat Salt Lake High School 18-3.
The S.L. team committed a lot of errors. Layton's team included: Brown, Bybee, Phillips, Simmons, Adams, Garrett, Wiggill, Blezerd and Sandall.
(Salt Lake High School was the forerunner of today's West High School.)

-BASKETBALL: "Thrilling hoop game at Layton" was a Jan. 19, 1922 headline in the Weekly Reflex. The Western A.C. team from Salt Lake defeated the Layton Legion team, 45-25. Every S.L. player was 6-feet in height or more and thus controlled the boards. O. Adams was Layton's leading scorer with 8 points and Sanders had 7.

-FOOTBALL: "Darts trounce Granite, 26-6; Meet Jordan at Layton next Thursday in feature contest:" was an Oct. 18, 1924 headline in the local Weekly Reflex newspaper. The Davis High Football team was tied for second in the Salt Lake Conference at that time. With no Layton High, Layton students attended Davis High in Kaysville for many decades. And, as the Davis High field was under renovation, the next game was to be played on the Layton Elementary School field. Other conference teams at that time included: Jordan, Cyprus, Tooele, Bingham, Murray and Grantsville.

Boxing and wrestling were popular sports in 1930s Layton.
