Layton City Mayoral history

Here’s a listing of Layton City’s 14 different mayors in its six-plus decades of having a mayor form of government:

2. Elias Dawson, 1954-1957.
3. Wayne Winegar, 1958-1960.
4. Wendall T. Snow, 1960-1964.
5. Golden Sill, 1964-1966.
6. James E. Briggs, 1966-1967.
7. Richard Stevenson, 1968-1969.
8. Lewis G. Shields, 1970-1984.
9. Golden Sill, 1984-1985.
10. Richard G. McKenzie, 1986-1989.
11. James J. Layton, 1990-1993.
12. Jerry Stevenson, 1994-2005.
13. Steve Curtis,** 2006-2013.
14. Bob Stevenson, 2014-2019.
15. Scott Freitag***, 2019-2020

*Layton City had its first mayoral position in 1950, when it became a third-class city. Formerly, it had a chair position instead.


**Mayor Steve Curtis died in office. Councilman Jory Francis, the mayor pro-tem, served as mayor for just over one month, until Bob Stevenson's term started.
