A look at Layton City's Fourth of July Celebration in 1951

RIATA Days was Layton's Fourth of July Celebration for many decades.
For example, the sixth annual Riata Days celebration on July 4, 1951 included a variety of events, but was anchored by all-you-can-eat pancakes at a Chuck Wagon Breakfast at 6:15 a.m. (much earlier than modern such holiday breakfasts).
The day's activities began with a flag salute at 6 a.m. in the City's Park. There were youth activities at 10 a.m. and a parade at 1 p.m.
There was also a baseball game of Layton vs. Evanston at 3 p.m.
The Ritz Theater hosted an indoor movie party at 7 p.m. and the Davis Drive-In and the Layton Drive-In sponsored movie parties and fireworks at 8:30 p.m.
The Layton Jaycees were the major sponsor of these holiday activities.
