WORLD War II brought many changes to Layton. There were many more people out and about and lots more traffic. In early 1942, Layton City also gained what may have been its first business open 24 hours.
"Layton cafe given privileges for coming operation" was an April 2, 1942 headline in the Weekly Reflex newspaper of Laysville-Bountiful.
The Good Eats Cafe, owned by Henry M. Getz, successfully gained approval from the Layton Town Board to operate on a 24-hour basis. His argument was that there were now many defense workers in town operating on different shifts around the clock and he wanted to cater to all.
Despite the approval, Layton's beer ordinance was still effective and the cafe could not sell any alcohol after 11 p.m. In addition, all dancing had to terminate by midnight daily, per another city ordinance.
