Layton City's famed 'Restaurant Row'

The north section of Layton's "restaurant row."

A gourmet heaven and a dieter's nightmare: This is Layton City's famed  "Restaurant Row."
Within a half-mile are dozens of restaurants that offer a wide range of selections that will appeal to almost anyone. Add in some other restaurants within another mile and there are even more choices.
From steak to buffets to seafood to fast food - just about every popular type of food can be ordered here in the area around the Layton Hills Mall.
Access is convenient and fast, just off I-15.
Applebee's, Golden Corral, Red Robin and Cracker Barrel  are just a sampling of what's there.
Ironically, in the mid-1980s, Layton only had a handful of sit-down restaurants. Many residents used to complain about having to travel to Ogden or Salt Lake City for quality dining.
It wasn't Layton's original plan to have any restaurants located north of the Layton Hills Mall - a drawing card of its own. The city had hoped for a large business park in the area. There are some offices there, but the eating places just starting coming in and took over the area.
From Ogden to Salt Lake, the restaurant area has become a regional draw.
Some nearby movie theaters and motels add to the allure of "The Row." A Super Target store on the north end, plus a small City park, also adds convenient grocery shopping and recreation to the mix in the area.
Old-timers in Layton used to swim in a pond that used to be located in what would become "Restaurant Row" one day.
